Mystic Grill FIRE!

This morning I was woken to numerous texts and phone calls telling me something awful was happening. Sadly Carter and Associates or as most of you will know it, The Mystic Grill was on fire. I don’t have all the specifics yet I can tell you that the bad news is the inside is probably ruined from the looks of things…Sadly this means that a lot of people are going to have to find somewhere to conduct business for a while. Mr. Carter has been so very nice to us and we want to ask you for your prayers for him, his employees and their families. Also sadly this means that a building that is considered part of historic Covington has been damaged. The good news? It does look like the Fire Department here did a great job responding and the outside of our beloved Mystic Grill was saved! That means that as far as I can see filming for Vampire Diaries hopefully will not be effected. It also means that our historic courthouse which is directly beside the Mystic Grill is OK. Thank goodness it wasn’t worse than it is! I will keep you posted as more details emerge. I will also let you know if there is anything that the Carter’s need. For anyone that has taken a tour here with me, Mr. Carter is the nice man who comes out and says “here comes a Vampire”. He has always embraced fans with open arms and not minded when we congregated outside in droves to take pictures of his accounting firm. Thank you again to the Covington Fire Department for their quick response of under 2 minutes.

My Question is? Is it coincidence that the Season 3 Finale will air tonight? Is this some kind of omen as to what will happen in tonights episode? Tragedy is what comes to mind…

UPDATE: from the Covington Facebook page: Further Update on structure fire at Alexander Royston and Carter CPA on the Clark St block between Pace and Hunter St- Public Safety are working on having the roads open, possibly by 11:00am (we will keep the FB page updated). The Arts Association May Concert at 12:00pm will continue as planned. Businesses affected by the fire – Alexander and Royston, Carter CPA, Tropical Nails, the Ledbetter law firm, Kuters Cage and the Masonic Lodge. Our thoughts and concerns are with these business owners and their staff in the coming days. Many thanks to all the Public Safety Departments for their quick response and efforts in successfully containing the fire.

As many of you know I have been taking tour guests here for 2 years now all while telling you eventually it would open its guests to fans…Well the wait is almost over! Below is the awesome description of the home and its accommodations! Business Description

Twelve Oaks Bed & Breakfast is scheduled to begin operations in the summer of 2012. Twelve Oaks B&B will provide high quality accommodations and full breakfast. Accommodations will consist of 8 luxuriously appointed guest rooms all with gorgeous private bathrooms. Full breakfast will be served every morning. In the afternoons, you will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages such as lemonade and sweet tea, which you can drink from the large rocking chairs on the front porch.

History

This is an 9,000 square foot home built in 1836. This is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful examples of antebellum architecture in the south and it has been featured in numerous publications and books. For many years, people have traveled from all over the country just to see beautiful antebellum homes like this up close. The following excerpt is from the chapter regarding the history of this particular property in the Glory of Covington by William Bailey Williford and tells of a home tour back in 1948 that included this home and drew nationwide attention:

Covington’s beautiful old houses were first opened to the public in 1948 for a tour sponsored by the Covington Garden Club… More than 2,500 actually descended upon the little city, causing The Covington News to report a few days later that “Covington is back to normal again after one of the biggest invasions since Sherman’s army marched through theses streets to the sea…Police tried vainly to handle the constantly swelling tide which poured in…from all directions.” Visitors came from as far away as New York and California. An antiques dealer expressed amazement at the beautiful homes and their handsome furnishings, and a woman ventured the opinion that Covington had more lovely old houses than could be found in Natchez.

Margaret Mitchell was so intrigued by this home that she sent a photograph of it to the set designers of Gone with the Wind along with a note that said, “I like this for Ashley’s home” referring to Twelve Oaks (sources: AJC and Antebellum Homes of Georgia by David Gleason). Gone with the Wind fans travel from all over the world to visit the Margaret Mitchell Museum in Atlanta and to see Georgia’s antebellum homes. This Bed & Breakfast will give you the opportunity to stay at the home that inspired the legendary Twelve Oaks.

Location

The property is conveniently located only 35 miles from downtown Atlanta. This makes it a perfect getaway for a romantic weekend or a special event such as a honeymoon or anniversary.

It is also an ideal location for weddings and executive retreats with plenty of meeting spaces and it will have wireless internet onsite. It is far enough from the city to feel as if you are somewhere special but not so far as to be a tiring journey. There is plenty to do locally as well. The property is located within walking distance of the charming historic downtown Covington square with wonderful shops and restaurants such as the local ice cream parlor that overlooks the square. There is also a large swimming pool on the property and lots of porches to find a great spot to read a good book or to take a nap.

In addition to being located close to Atlanta, Covington is known as the “Hollywood of the South” and tourism is taking off. On April 8th of 2011, The Covington News reported that “2,544 visitors came to Newton County in March, the majority of them for Vampire Diaries’ tours. People from 37 states and 16 countries came to Newton, including visitors from Brazil, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Panama, and Portugal.” This property was recently filmed in an episode of the Vampire Diaries at the beginning of the second season (the name of the episode was “Memory Lane”). Footage was used of both the exterior and interior of the home. The Vampire Diaries tour stops daily at the home and sometimes twice per day. (thats us www.mysticfallstours.com)

Guest Rooms

The common areas and the guest rooms will be decorated in a warm and inviting style. Antiques will be blended with modern pieces for a timeless, elegant and comfortable feel. Over a number of years, I have accumulated a substantial amount of furniture and art which reflects a mixture of southern culture as well as modern and foreign influences. Each bedroom will be furnished and decorated in a different style to reflect the different movies that have been filmed in Covington over the years. Each room will feature luxurious bedding, bath robes, ipod/iphone docks, a flat panel tv and many other delightful amenities.

Each bathroom will be unique; some will have claw foot tubs while others have two person air

jetted tubs or two person showers. All vanities will have marble or granite countertops.

Summary

This gorgeous 175 year old mansion is a national treasure. Your visit will help enable us to see it protected and preserved. At this time, room rates have not been established but will likely start around $175 per room per night; this includes accommodations, a full breakfast, all beverages and hors d’oeuvres for two people.

BABY SWAN ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

For those of you that have been on a tour with us recently I know you have been waiting just like we have for Steven and Muriel the swans to become parents again! Guess What? The wait is over. I am happy to announce that yesterday (march 29th) Mama and Daddy became PROUD parents to 7 Baby Swans! I love this time of year when Spring is here and life is reborn! Special thanks to Ben and Ralph the home owners of the Lockwood Mansion for allowing us to share in their lives and visit their home on a daily basis! Because of them I get to see these beautiful babies everyday!

Eyecon Wrap Up

I want to thank everyone that came to Georgia last week and joined us for a tour of Mystic Falls or who said Hi to us at Eyecon 3. We had a total blast meeting the fans and hanging out…when we had time. Brannan and I had a Vampire Stalkers panel on Friday which honestly still blows my mind that fans want to come listen to what we have to say, so thank you for that. On Saturday while all the cool things were happening like question and answer sessions with the cast as well as photo ops, autograph signings and parties we were behind the scenes most of the time with my awesome friend Kat Graham. Kat was so sick that day but still went out of her way to be there and hang out with her fans. Also Miss Arriele aka Lexi from TVD is someone Iam proud to say I now think of as a friend because she is super sweet. My interview with her should be up any day now.

Sunday was just as much fun with us actually getting our photo ops, hanging out in the green room with Paul Wesley and Torrey Devotto. Let me tell you I didn’t realize Paul could be so funny and Torrey brings the best out in him. ALso know Paul is trying to tweet more so show him some love over on twitter. I totally would like to admit that this was my first time meeting Torrey and I had a starstruck moment because I was a big fan of hers on One Tree Hill…you know? She played a Badass role as Nanny Carrie! So Iam so happy she was as awesome as I thought she would be. I also had the pleasure of interviewing…did I say “I” interviewed? No more like Steven and Zach allowed me to be present as they interviewed themselves for us! HAHA That will be up in my next post so check that out as well.

Most importantly was our raffle and auction that we had for THe Ian Somerhalder Foundation. Vampire Stalkers had the awesome pleasure of seeing months and months of hard work finally be rewarded when our raffle earned 533.00 and our NYC Triple header Raffle earned an outstanding $1000.00! I totally need to thank Zach and Steven because without them the ISF auction would not have made as much money…and it wouldn’t have been near as much fun! THose guys rock! I also want to thank everyone that bought a raffle ticket and those who donated the items we were able to auction. By the end of the weekend the guitar was signed by almost every single TVD cast member, the coolest thing being the actual winner of the auction was a guitar player so I think the winner was meant to be.

I spent the weekend getting lots of items signed as well….so if your needing a gift for someone or just happened to miss this convention and you are wanting something signed by your favorite cast member shoot me a email. All the signed items are for sale with all proceeds being split between ISF and The water Project. So that means (Ian and Kats charities)

Behind the scenes filming TVD

Ever wondered what your city or town looked like in the 1800′s? 1900′s? Well if your ever lucky enough to have a television show filmed in your town you may get to find out one day. The Vampire Diaries took Covington, Ga this week and in a matter of hours the streets were covered with dirt and carriages were lining the roads for a 1800′s scene and a awesome old timey car was out front of our court house for a scene straight out of the 1900′s. Although I cant post pictures from actual scenes being filmed…and I know the fans wouldn’t want the episode to be spoiled with anything their eyes shouldn’t have seen…YET.
I want this post to be all about the crew of TVD! Kudos to them! I wish that all the fans could see all the behind the scenes work that they do. For this episode the crew had to cover the streets around our square and in front of the court house with thousands of pounds of dirt in order to transform the present day to the past. Once they rolled in the carriages and cars from yester-year the courthouse that we’ve been enjoying for more than a hundred years looked just like it did way back when. Street signs were removed and barrels were carted in to set the stage…Shooting took place well into the wee hours of the morning and all had to be cleaned and removed and streets reopened all before the sun came up and everyone started their days by heading into work. Can you imagine shoveling all the dirt into just the right spot filming for hours and then shoveling all up so that we could drive our cars around the square. I hope that all the fans realize that we have such a phenomenal show not just because of the great cast and writers of TVD but also because the crew of this show work so very hard and care so much about what they do. If your ever lucky enough to see a show or movie being filmed I ask you to take the time to thank the crew. They deserve all the love and awards that the cast members get….the only difference is they deserve even more recognition in my opionion.

We need your HELP

I dont usually do this but as most of you know my family is always heavily invloved with helping whatever furry friend we can at any given moment. Iam sorry to say that may have hurt us this time around…Recently we had a stray cat show up here at our home. Even though we have to many animals we decided to take him in and feed him, build him a home on the front porch, name him and make him our own. Little did we know that he was sick….Morris needed love and thats all we cared about. The problem is once we realized he may be sick he had given whatever it is to 2 of our babies! My cat Grayson and my sons cat Ace are both very sick…it has gotten alot worse since last night and we have no idea how much taking them to the vet will cost. Iam scared and worried they are not going to make it along with the fact I dont know how in the hell we are going to take 3 cats to the vet in the am. I am asking anyone that can possibly help to please send whatever you can. These cats are part of our home and mean the world to us! ANY amount will help and you can choose whatever you can afford. I will post as soon as we see the vet what he says so everyone will know and I plan to keep giving updates….
